Strikethrough Text Generator — Copy and Paste
Enter a short phrase to add a combining line-through mark to supported letter, number and punctuation graphemes. Copy the result as text. This is a Unicode effect, not an editor’s native strikethrough formatting.
Up to 500 characters (complete graphemes), with an 8000 code-unit safety cap.
Strikethrough
Create a crossed-out phrase
Exact example: Ab → A̶b̶. The generator adds U+0336, COMBINING LONG STROKE OVERLAY, after each eligible grapheme. It preserves an existing accent before adding the stroke and does not add a second stroke when that grapheme already contains one.
- Enter only the phrase you want crossed out, such as an old label or a playful correction.
- Inspect the result before copying: combining marks are a visual effect, not a guarantee of one continuous line.
- Paste into the target field and check the saved text. If copying is denied, copy the selected result manually.
Accents, spaces and emoji are handled separately
Supported letter, number and punctuation graphemes receive a mark. Complex multi-letter graphemes remain unchanged, including Indic conjuncts and decomposed Hangul syllables. Spaces, tabs and line boundaries remain unchanged. Emoji sequences are preserved without an added strike, including joined emoji and keycap sequences. Other symbols are also left alone. A mixed phrase can therefore contain both crossed-out and untouched characters.
Choose native formatting when it is available
A text editor’s strikethrough control changes presentation without inserting these extra combining marks. This generator instead produces a modified character sequence. It does not insert Markdown delimiters or HTML tags. Keep the original wording if you need to edit, search or reuse the phrase later.
The limit is 500 complete graphemes and 8000 code units. Unicode’s display guidance describes possible mark-positioning problems as well as missing glyphs. If the line looks misplaced, use the original text with a written correction rather than treating the effect as essential meaning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the line stop at an emoji?
The tool deliberately leaves emoji sequences unmarked so their internal components are not altered. Spaces and line breaks are also left unchanged.
Does copying apply a real strikethrough style?
No. It copies letters with added combining marks. Native editor formatting and markup syntax are separate methods.
Can I strike text that is already crossed out?
The generator avoids duplicating U+0336 within an already marked grapheme. It does not remove existing marks or recover an original version automatically.
